Atrahasis is a funny Sumerian-Akkadian tale from the 18th century BCE about the creation of man and a big flood. I’m not an expert on religious mentality in ancient times, but I guess no Akkadian farmer believed the story was true. Meanwhile it's at the core of the Jewish, Christian und Islamic tradition.
