Book recommendations

These books – forgotten today – mark the beginning of an alternative and of a new history of religion; they mark the beginning of a new paradigm in the history of science:

• Constantin François Chassebœuf de Volney (1757–1820): Les Ruines, ou méditations sur les révolutions des empires (1791; translated into English by Thomas Jefferson!) 
• Charles-François Dupuis (1742–1809): Origine de tous les Cultes, ou la Réligion Universelle (1795) 
• David Friedrich Strauss (1808-1874): Das Leben Jesu, kritisch bearbeitet (1835/36) 
• Friedrich Delitzsch (1850-1922): Babel und Bibel. Drei Vorträge (1902-1905)
• Alfred Jeremias (1864-1935): Das Alte Testament im Lichte des Alten Orients (1904; Jeremias was a Panbabylonist)
• Sigmund Freud (1856-1939): Der Mann Moses und die monotheistische Religion (1939) 
• Oskar Goldberg (1885-1953): Die Wirklichkeit der Hebräer: Einleitung in das System des Pentateuch (1924/25; Goldberg was the model for Thomas Mann's Jewish fascist Dr. Chaim Breisacher in Doktor Faustus)
